He was born in 1218 in Bagnorea in the Tuscany area of Italy. He entered the recently established Franciscan Order. His writings include: The Life of St. Francis, The Journey of the Mind to God and The Tree of Life. He was made a Cardinal-Bishop and died in 1274. The major Franciscan university in our country, St. Bonaventure University, in New York state is named after him. He is an example of great learning and of even greater humility. May his example of humbly seeking to know God and all of God’s creation inspire us to always seek to better know, love and serve God, the creator of all and the final goal of all creation! His Feast is this Sat., July 15th.
