Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus will be celebrated Friday, June 8th.  Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus became popular in the 13th and 14th centuries among the mystics who contemplated the love of God as revealed in Christ.  The heart was the natural symbol of the love dwelling within Christ.  The devotion became very popular due to the visions of St. Margaret Mary Aloque, a French Visitation nun, in 1673-75.  Almost two hundred years later, in 1856, a special feast of the Sacred Heart was introduced into the Church.  While the devotion and feast are relatively new, the recognition of God’s love for us in Christ is as old as Christianity itself.  We live and hope in this love of God for us.  Mass for this important feast will be celebrated on Friday, June 8th at 8:00 a.m.
