2017-2018 FISH FRY LIST

On March 23rd we had an excellent Fish Fry; not only was the food good, but the crowd was great, we sold 321 dinners!  Certainly we like this.  However, the regular workers are really overworked.  We hope for a big crowd for each, but we also need to have more workers; various types of work are involved.  Contact the rectory or Mike Suter at 414-405-2078 if you would like to volunteer.  



We have a Fish Fry every second Friday of the month from September through May and every Friday during Lent.  Please check our Events Calendar for specific details on location, times and prices.  Those who are celebrating a birthday or anniversary are invited to bring their guests to our Fish Fries for their celebration.  Separate tables can be set for your celebration of 12 guests or more.  Our Fish Fry crew will then serve you and your guests family style.  Call Barb Suter at 414-380-0662 or the rectory at 414-541-5207 to set up a Fish Fry Party.  Plan ahead for a nice family/friends party at a Great Fish Fry!



In past years, the Prayer and Worship Committee invited twelve persons for this Washing of Feet.  This year the committee decided to turn the table.  Volunteers are being asked to sign up to have their feet washed on Holy Thursday during the 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Lord’s Supper.  The sheet is in the vestibule.  Twelve volunteers - any age, men and women!  If twelve have not signed up by March 19th, we will need to ask some individuals. 



Three weeks until Palm Sunday and we like to mix these spring willows with the palms.  Some recent donors have died and some elderly parishioners are no longer able to cut the bushes.  Some younger donors are needed.  If you have any pussy willows in your yards, bring them to the vestibule, Heritage hall or the rectory; ideal size is 2 feet and not more than 3 feet.  Hope we have some branches this year.



Our choir has begun rehearsals for Holy Week and Easter.  New members are being sought.  If singing is one of your talents, please join the choir for practice on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in church.  The choir sings on Sundays at the 10 a.m. Mass.  We appreciate our wonderful choir!


Old age and death have depleted this committee.  The group addresses a number of activities; presently no one is delivering the food items collected every second Sunday of the month to Holy Assumption, which is where the combined food pantry is located for all of the east Catholic churches.  Only a monthly task; but it needs to be done.  Please contact the rectory as soon as possible if you are willing and able to make this delivery.  Thank you.


The Peanut Butter & Jelly Ministry announces their 10th anniversary!

They have made 180 PBJ Sandwiches monthly for the Gathering Food Site since February 2008.  Always needed:  grape jelly, large jars of creamy peanut butter or cash donations to buy the bread or other items.  Place in Sleeping Bag containers in vestibule.  We are looking for new volunteers to add to our on-call list.  They would help make the sandwiches monthly on each 2nd Saturday morning for about an hour.  If you would like more information, please call Jackie Ellington at 414-327-4625.



One of our parishioners has an upper, small 2 bedroom apartment for rent.  If you are interested, please contact them for more information at 414-476-9987.



It is a good time to announce that any adults who want to be confirmed this coming Easter, should notify the pastor.  Easter is early this year, April 1st , so sessions for confirmation need to begin in January.


Our food pantry is collecting items that are in great need.  The pantry is always in need of:  Cake Mix, Cereal, Canned Spaghetti/Meat, Spaghetti Sauce, Canned Beef Stew, Dried Beans, Canned Beans, Noodles/Pasta, Mac & Cheese, Canned Vegetables, Cookies, Flour and Sugar.  Items can be placed in the container in the vestibule.  The food pantry helps many families in the West Allis area with your support.  Thank you for sharing what you have with others in need. - Human Concerns Committee



A current need surfaced.  We need new choir members, servers (children and adults) and also Eucharistic ministers.  Parishioners should carefully and prayerfully consider if they are qualified to fulfill some of these much needed ministries in our parish.  Contact the rectory if interested!



Robert Zaja, son of our parishioner Rose Zaja, is in need of a kidney transplant.  If anyone can assist him, or knows of someone willing to assist, please call Robert or Rose at 414-321-1379 or 414-803-8095.  Thank you also for your prayers.



Sister Genevieve, who resides in our convent, is in need of transportation or looking for someone to carpool with as they go to their place of employment.  Please contact her at her cell of 1-469-951-9614 to discuss if where you and she work are close enough that she could be dropped off at or near her place of employment.  Thank you. 



Our Saturday evening Mass of Anticipation time has changed to 4:00 p.m.

The first Friday of the month is the usual day for the ministering of communion to those unable to come to church.  If you know of anyone who would want monthly communion, please notify the pastor.  Of course, any time a sick person would want the Anointing of the Sick/Holy Communion, please call the pastor!


This group faithfully meets twice a month on Tuesday mornings from September to June at 9:00 a.m. in the Remembrance Room.  We need a few good knotters in making sleeping bags for the homeless.  No sewing is required, just the ability to make a knot with yarn.  For more information, call Jackie Ellington at 414-327-4625.


The Archdiocese of Milwaukee has been planning to cluster the West Milwaukee parish and the eastern parishes of West Allis. Below are the links to the documents for the information they have collected with the assistance and involvement of parish member volunteers from St. Florian, Holy Assumption, St. Augustine and St. Rita.  Please read the data and attend one of the upcoming meetings to better explain everything and to ask questions of these representatives that you may have.  The information and meetings are vitally important for the future of all of these parishes.  Ideally, we would like you to attend our meeting; but if there are time restraints, we understand and feel it is vitally important that you attend at least one of the meetings.  There will be more meetings in 2017.  Please watch for those dates and times.

We are pleased to announce the formation of our Quad Parish Religious Education Program.  St. Augustine, St. Florian, Holy Assumption, and St. Rita Parishes have decided to better utilize space, resources and volunteers; while providing quality formation for our children and youth.  The Quad Parish Religious Education Program will be under the direction of our Pastoral Associate, Barbara Krieger.  She can be reached at her office, located within St. Rita Parish, at 414-541-7515, ext. 39 or via her cell at 414-364-5566.

ALL classes are now held on Sunday mornings at St. Rita Parish.  The high school classes have been scheduled at the same time as the grade school classes for convenience of families with multiple aged students.  Both orientations will be held at 9:00 a.m. in Arnold Hall.  Families can enter Arnold Hall on the north side of the main church lot on S. 60 St. & W. Lincoln Ave.  (There is a door marked "Arnold Hall.")

  -- Orientation for kindergarten - 8th grade is Sunday, September 10, 2017.

  -- Orientation for high school is Sunday, September 24, 2017.

Classes will be held on Sunday mornings from 9:00 a.m. - 10:10 a.m. at St. Rita Parish.

This process of bringing non-baptized adults into the Catholic community has been used in the USA since 1988 - almost 30 years.  Some Catholics are familiar with the process, and there are some who hardly know it exists.  Here in our parish earlier this year, two adults were baptized, confirmed and made their First Holy Communion during the Easter Vigil.  There is an adapted rite known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC) used for children who have reached the age of reason and are entering into the Catholic Church.  Also related to this process of RCIA is the reception of adults baptized into another ecclesial community (Lutheran, Presbyterian, Methodist, etc.) being received into the Catholic community through Confirmation and First Communion; we had one such candidate during the Easter Season.  More can be learned about this Catholic ritual in the Catholic Update inserted in today’s bulletin.  Also a reminder:  any adults interested in being baptized or received into the Catholic church - contact the pastor soon, as sessions would begin in early autumn.  Usually from September or October to Easter is enough time for the necessary sessions.  Please contact Barbara Krieger, our Pastoral Associate, to register or ask any questions.  She can be reached at her office at 414-541-7515, ext. 39 or via her cell at 414-364-5566.
